The RMI Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program in collaboration with the MCH Block Grant Program and Women United Together in the Marshall Islands (WUTMI) partnered up to provide early detection cancer screening initiatives like the community-to-clinic project /worksite- to – clinic and after-hours cancer screening clinics. WUTMI is a chartered, non-government, not for profit organization, with the primary goal to support and strengthen Marshallese women, and in doing so, to strengthen Marshallese families. WUTMI was contracted by the breast and cervical cancer early detection program to do community awareness and navigation of women to the clinic for screening. Since transportation and busy working women are some of the challenges, WUTMI is tasked to bring in women to and from the Hospital after working hours, to access the cancer screenings, which is free at charge. MCH Block Grant Program provided the staff, medical supplies and clinic for this partnership.
With this initiative, there’s a significant increase of % in the number of women accessing cancer screening in comparison to previous years as shown in the graph below. Women with cancer are detected early and referred accordingly for evaluation and treatment.
